(New) 6-12-2020: If you are taking AP Physics and you have already taken calculus, you don't have to do the calculus part of the physics summer assignment.
8/8/19 . Click here for your course syllabus.ap_calculus_bc_syllabus_2019-2020.docx
8/8/19 . Click here for an updated version of the assignment sheet for Chapter 2.
6/11/17: You may down load your summer assignment by clicking here.
The summer assignment is a compressed file that constitutes 8 files. Make sure you follow
instructions carefully. The assignment is due on the first day of school and you will be tested on it
on the first day of school.
8/12/16 : You may down load your syllabus by clicking here
7/17/16:
You should have started on the homework by now. As you do the graphs, make sure that you know how to sketch them without a calculator and use the graphing calculator to check only - NOT to COPY the graphs!
AP Calculus BC Announcements 7/11/16:
Please remember that chapters 1,2,3 of the calculus textbook are on this viewable on this website under "AP Calculus AB" --> "AB Assignments & Handouts" or "AP Calculus BC" --> "BC Assignments & Handouts". You may go to either one of the two sites, since we use the same textbook. For AB we cover the first 7 chapters and for BC we cover all 10 chapters. We will not cover the first chapter, because that is precalculus. I will be reviewing precalculus concepts together with calculus as we go during the semester. Go below to download the summer homework.
6/16/16:
Students that plan to take AP Calculus BC in the fall of 2016, must do the summer assignment which you can download by clicking here.
You are expected to turn in this assignment on the first day of school. Please be aware that you will be expected to know this material and you will be tested it on the first day of school. You will not be allowed to use your graphing calculator on the test. You will be expected to sketch any of the elementary functions without the use of a graphing calculator.
============================================================================================
I gave you the wrong assignment in class, Pg. 386, it should be as it is on RenWeb:
Pg. 395:3-18(3x). We will do section 7.1 later. We are starting chapter 7 at section 2.
AB and BC, 9/2/14: I have updated the homework assignments to reflect what homework and sections that we will be covering next week. I recommend that you download the new assignment sheet for Chapter 2.
6/20/14: I have uploaded the summer homework for both calculus AB and BC. Please note that for calculus BC the homework is not the same as last year. I have added more exercises specific to BC. It is all under the "AP ... Summer Assignments" pull down menu. I will be sending you an email with the summer homework as an attachment. The calculus AB homework is
really the same as last year, so if you got it from my website previous to this enhancement, you are okay. However, for calculus BC, I have added more exercises.
6/18/14: If you are planning to take AP calculus AB or BC during the 2014-15 school year, you must do the following this summer:
1. Do the 2 homework assignments, that is, the problems on chapter 1 in you textbook, and the graphing calculator exercises. You wil have a test on the 2nd day of school. Warning! one or two nights will not be sufficient for you to prepare. Therefore, do not wait until the last week of the summer.
2. You must take the calculus readiness test immediately after the first day of school, if you have NOT taken it. It is 55 minutes in length.
3. If you got a score of 21 (out of 36) or less on the calculus readiness test, you must do the recommendations I sent to you via email in June. If you have a question on this, please email me at jagarcia@fremontchristian.com. You must also talk to me on the first day of school concerning your plan concerning these recommendations.
5/19/14: We will be working on problems for presentations all next week, 5/19 to 5/23.
4/12/14: AP Calculus AB and BC classes, you should be reviewing on your own at least one hour per day. You covered a lot of material during the year and you need to review it. Begin by reviewing all the formulas for derivatives and integrals, then go over all the definitions - just read them once. Next download all the formula and review sheets on this website under AP Calculus AB and BC, especially the "you should know" sheet.
Calc AB Class, You need to come in on Monday or Tuesday and pick up another Free Response packet. You may come in to my classroom to pick one up or you may pick it up at the office. We will also have another Quiz on Thursday 4/17 on review packets.
AB and BC: I will be administering a full AP practice exam on 4/26/14 for both AB and BC classes. We will then spend the entire week after we get back from the break going over the questions from this exam.
1/26/14: As I announced on Friday, I will be out 4 days on some training. For this reason, I have adjusted the assignment sheet accordingly. If you are going by the assignment sheet, you need to print it out again. You will be listening to some calculus lectures that will cover the same material that I would have covered. You will be given some note to help you follow the lecture and will be assigned homework. I will try to upload answers to the problems that you will be doing for homework. The bc class will have part 2 of the chapter 6 test, then you will start on chapter 7 with video lectures.
1/20/14: I have uploaded the assignment sheet for chapter 5.
Calculus BC, 1/19/14: I have uploaded the assignment sheet for the rest of chapter 6 assignments and tests. You will have a test on chapter 6 on Friday, 1/24/14. The packet is a good way to prepare for the test. We will continue ch6 on Tuesday on Ch6.5.
1/1/14 I have uploaded the AB Break Assignment today. It is for the purpose of reviewing calculus during the break.
I recommend that you do one half hour to one hour every day, until Monday, 1/1/20. Otherwise, you will not be finished. The assignment is long.
The BC is not loaded because everyone in the class received a hardcopy on the last day of the semester. If you do not have one, then go to my classroom
during J-term and pick one up. If you have not started this assignment, you probably will not finish. DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST DAY!
12/22/13: For students in AP Calc AB, I will upload the break assignment, by tomorrow. I know
that not everyone picked one up from my classroom. I've had trouble uploading it because it is a big file. I probably will have to
break it into 2 parts. Work on this assignment everyday for 30 min. to one hour. If you try to do it the last day or 2, you probably will
not finish it. Did you notice that each multiple choice problem has a "dot" in one of the answer choices? Where the dot is - that is the
answer. Email me if you have any questions on the assignment. Work smart!
12/15/13: AB students will have quiz on Tuesday on 5.1 and 5.2. BC students will have a quiz on Tuesday, also on 6.1 and 6.4.
11/5/13:
I have posted the new chapter 5 assignments sheet.
10/16/13:
I have posted the answers for your practice test on chapter 3 under AP Calculus AB-->AB Assignments & Handouts -->"Study Guides and Class Notes" (last column)
This is a Note for BC Students: Answers to the practice quiz that I handed out to you today are:
1) D 2) 3) E 4) E or D 5) D 6) C
9/2/13: I have now posted the new assignment sheet for chapter 3 for BC. BC students note also the powerpoint links.
Let me know in class if you would like me to post any thing else that is helpful to you.
8/26/13: I've made changes to the assignment sheets for calculus AB and BC. Please download again.
BC and AB 8/12:13: The summer work is due on the first day of school, you will most likely be tested on it, sometime during the first week of school,
7/31/13: For the BC course, we will go through the material very fast compare to AB, so I strongly
recommend those students that are registered for BC to continue on to chapter 2 and Chapter 3, after they complete the summer assignment, before school starts. Those students that took this recommendation seriously, last year, got A's in the class and got 5's on the AP Exam. Actually, this is a good idea for AB students as well. For this reason, I've continued to upload PowerPoints and the homework exercises for chapter 3. I only did 5 sections of ch3, so unless a student asks me to upload more sections, I will not do anymore.
